Happy 2010

We had a really excellent 2009 here at Peter B Photo - but are really excited for what is going to happen here in 2010.

First off all - Santa was extremely good to us this past holiday season. We have made a major upgrade in camera and lens. I can't wait to see how the new hardware will energize and inspire fresh new images this year.

Secondly - Peter B Photo exists to make the world a better place. We do what we do here to learn how to see beauty, so we can celebrate who we are, and so we don't forget who we were. But at the same time, we really wanted to do something very tangible as well, give to a cause that we really believe in, and simultaneously give that cause more exposure. That cause is called The Girl Effect.

If you've read Greg Mortensons book, "Three Cups of Tea" or his new one, "Stones into Schools", you already have an appreciation for what The Girl Effect is trying to do. So, starting in 2010, 10% of all print orders will be donated to The Girl Effect. I've always wanted to do this, and I really feel that as things are starting to take off here more and more, now is the time to do this.

So, we can't wait to see what will be happening around here. Add our RSS feed into your reader, or join the facebook group to keep up on the latest.

Sofia - Model Headshot

Sofia's goal for this session was to generate a single 8x10 headshot image to support her dream of acting. She had her parents backing in setting this up, but she did all the coordination work herself - very impressive. I only talked with her mother before the shoot to nail down some details of time and place. It's great to see people who know what they want and go out and make it happen, isn't it?

Sofia did a great job of selecting her wardrobe. Her accessories and makeup, as you can see, were all really tastefully done. She used simple things to give each look its own personality. I think that really makes a difference. After a while, she confided that she was a little worried she might be nervous at the start. But the great thing about digital is it is easy to bypass bad photos and I told her not to worry, to just try some things and we would figure it out. It wasn't long before I was able to give her some feedback and I would say that after the first wardrobe change, we found our stride. The light was playing tricks on us --hiding behind clouds --so we had to move around a little bit to try to find it again, but the whole time I could see her feeling more relaxed and understanding the kinds of things that were working. By the end we were capturing some really fantastic images and enjoying the process.

It's not hard to see that Sofia is a sweetheart and will just as easily burst into smile as give you any number of other expressions. She is the kind of person who you really want to see have the success. My favorite line came after I was giving her a little positive feedback on what she was doing, and she said, "I'm just trying to act cool - but I'm really not".

Elizabeth

Future model?

This girl had three acting lessons when we did this session. I don't know what they taught her - but I really like what we captured. She was completely comfortable, relaxed and confident in front of the camera. She took suggestions great - but I didn't need to give her much besides where I wanted her to stand or sit. She gave me plenty to work with. And I love the results.

Here are the headshots!

Maisy

This girl was hilarious to photograph and talk to: she was careful to clarify that her name was Maisy... and positively NOT Maizy.
